Catch Up With Politics This President's Day

It was not too long ago that Donald Trump was elected as President. As college students, we are aware that there are so many decisions and changes coming our way as a nation.

The future is still unpredictable if you haven’t been affected by any of the recent policies that have been issued. Have you ever thought about following in a past or current president’s path? Do you feel a bit more patriotic lately? Do you have any plans this Monday other than completing homework and projects?!

If you have second guessed what you are doing this extra day off, here are a few tips to catch up with American politics and make the most of out of your President’s Day celebration!

Consider holding an officer or leadership role within a student organization next semester.

The importance of leadership care really begins in college because if it doesn’t start here, when will the path to being the next president really begin?! The benefits are phenomenal.

If you don’t have time to run for a leadership position for your favorite club these next few semesters, identify a time where you can begin to attend those student government meetings instead. Choose to highly involve yourself to get the most out of student life development.

If student government is not your cup of tea for leadership development, keep in mind there are so many other clubs, events, and committees on campus you can be a part of. You can learn to take the lead in these activities as you advance in your studies. Don’t be afraid to stop by the student life office and find what student organizations are available for you to explore.

You can learn to lend your voice in important campus functions and meetings. You will learn to make a valuable difference on campus by being the best student you can be. You can have loads of fun to learning how to lead with student leaders by adding to the suggestion box and taking those student life surveys!

Have fun attending campus events and gaining new skills in teamwork and organization. Learn to discuss important campus changes and issues and how to solve or improve student life. When you return back to school the next day, consider being a public speaker for an event to occur on campus.  Share a presentation with a government class even if you already took a government or political science class about a specific topic.

Brush up on your knowledge of the Presidents by taking the trivia quiz for beginners.  

You’ll be surprised that you can learn something new on a school holiday! Then, when you return to class you can share it with a buddy. You can start with identifying the presidents on our latest coins or consider coin collecting.

Listen to a podcast on current political issues. You may find this website useful and very exciting! Share your knowledge within your dorm hall and amongst your fellow colleagues!

Last but not least, watch TV! Tune into Youtube and Itunes to replay some of the world’s most famous presidential speeches. Plan ahead to watch a historical movie or documentary with a few buddies on the impact of your favorite past President. Pick up a biography written by a past president and have fun reading it without being obligated to analyze it for educational purposes. Share the best parts of the book with family and friends to get them to join in on celebrating President’s Day!

These tips on catching up with politics on President’s Day ought to be fun and full of red, white and blue, so choose to enjoy your Monday away from the blackboards and social media. Make some steaks, wave the flag, and make the most of your President’s Day!
